Evans contract confirmed

Jonny Evans is the latest young player to commit his next four years to United.

The Northern Ireland international has now signed a new contract to keep him at Old Trafford until at least June 2014.

Sir Alex Ferguson expressed his joy at the news in a club press statement:

"We are delighted Jonny has signed a new contract. Jonny has risen through the United ranks to become an integral part of the first-team squad, he is an intelligent defender and has been excellent in the central defensive positions at key times during the season."

Jonny Evans said:

“I am delighted to have signed a new contract. I’ve supported Manchester United all my life and it’s a great honour to be able to continue to wear the badge of this great club. I’d like to thank the staff, players and fans for their continued support in my development.”

New deal for Neville

Gary Neville has been rewarded for his recent performances and overall commitment to United with a new one-year contract extension.

The 35-year-old has been a regular at right back for much of 2010, and he will continue as club captain for another year at Old Trafford.

"We've agreed a contract with Gary Neville for another year," Sir Alex confirmed on Friday morning. "We've been working on it for a couple of weeks now.

"We're delighted with that. We think he deserves it because his contribution to the club has been fantastic. As I've said time and again about certain players, they make a career out of their will and determination to do it. Gary is one of those players."

The Reds skipper was praised by Sir Alex for his "astonishing" comeback from 18 months out with a series of injury problems, which began with an ankle ligament problem he suffered in a challenge with Gary Speed against Bolton in March 2007.

"The amazing thing he has achieved is coming back from a year-and-a-half out in his thirties," said the boss. "To get to the level he is playing at today is astonishing. The man is doing it because he wants to do it, he has the determination and drive within himself not to give in on his career. He's getting the rewards for that because his performances levels have been outstanding, and at an important time for the club.

The boss admits there were times when he did harbour concerns that the 35-year-old would ever return to his former levels of performances.

"We worried about it," he said. "When you're out for 18 months in your thirties, it is a concern. We knew he was putting everything into it. You don't worry about Gary's commitment and his endeavour to come back from injury. We leave it to him because he is more determined than any of us. We wanted to make sure he was back and tried to give him the right treatments. But at that age you have to have concerns, but we're delighted he has recovered from the injury."

Neville has an invaluable contribution to make because of his experience, but Sir Alex insists his performance levels have to be right, too. "I think experience could also be misinterpreted in the sense of the ability to play in games," he added. "You could keep a player with great experience and not play him. I don't think Gary would enjoy that, I don't think Scholes, Giggs or van der Sar would either. They want to play, nobody more than Gary."

New deal for Scholes

Manchester United is pleased to announce that Paul Scholes has signed a new one-year contract, keeping him at the club until at least June 2011.

Sir Alex Ferguson told ManUtd.com: "We are delighted Paul is staying on for another year.

"His form this year indicates his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever, and that's every reason to stay on.

"There was talk about him wanting to retire, but when you see his enjoyment in training and playing, you can see how much he wants to carry on."

Scholes said: "I am pleased to have signed for another year. I am feeling good and enjoying my football.

"I would like to thank the boss, the coaching staff and also the fans for their continued support."

New deal for Fabio

Brazilian full-back Fabio da Silva has signed an extension to his contract with Manchester United, keeping him at the Club until at least June 2014.

The 20 year-old, who has made thirteen appearances for the first team is seen as a highly promising prospect by manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. He said:

“Fabio has settled into the Club really well. He’s a natural footballer; a player who has good pace, reads the game well for a boy of his age and is always looking to attack. He’s had some bad luck with injuries, but he’ll make a fine Manchester United player in the years to come."

Fabio da Silva said:

“Playing for Manchester United is every young player’s dream. I’m very happy and proud to commit my future to the Club. In the time I’ve been here, I’ve learned a lot from the world class players that I train with and I hope that as time goes on, I can contribute more and more to the success of this great club.”

Edwin signs new deal

Edwin van der has signed a new one-year contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until at least June 2011.

The 39-year-old Dutch goalkeeper has put pen-to-paper on the new deal, which takes him beyond his 40th birthday in October this year.

Sir Alex Ferguson is pleased to have secured the experienced shot-stopper's services for another 12 months.

“Edwin’s professionalism and dedication to his job and the way he looks after himself has given him the longevity in the game," the boss told ManUtd.com. "That longevity includes such great experience not just at United, but at Juventus, Ajax and on an international level. We are absolutely delighted he is continuing for another year."

Van der Sar is "delighted" to have signed for another year, and also thanked United for the compassion shown in helping him to deal with the recent illness of his wife.

"I still feel good and am enjoying my football," he told us. "This is a great club and I was shown a great deal of compassion and support during a difficult time in December and January for which I am extremely grateful. I am looking forward to winning more trophies with this great team."
